The Cat Empire is a six-piece Australian band that plays a mix of jazz, hip-hop, soul, reggae, Cuban, salsa, gypsy, dancehall, dub and Latin music. Their self-titled debut album was released in October 2003 and went platinum in Australia in February 2004. Their follow-up album, Two Shoes, was released in April 2005 and debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts.

They have toured extensively around the world and have supported acts as big as James Brown. In 2006, they previewed their third album Cities: The Cat Empire Project at the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
