Anarchy in the U.K.

The established order of British pop and rock music was turned upside down in the autumn of 1976 when the first single from a then considered outrageous band called The Sex Pistols entered the charts and climbed to the modest position of number 38.

'Anarchy In The UK' was to have the same effect on what had become a largely stagnant pop music scene in the mid-seventies as Elvis Presley with Hound Dog had changed the face of Fifties popular music, and The Beatles with Love Me Do in the Sixties.

The music which many had predicted wouldn't last six months, is still to be reckoned with 15 years later, and the fact that many of it's key figures are still very much around is an endorsement of the powerful effect that Punk Rock and New Wave had on a pop music scene that back in the mid-seventies had lost much of it's excitement and creativity.

Perhaps the music did quite result in the Anarchy In The UK that the older generation reckoned it would, but it's shock wave brightened up the music scene considerably........
